And at number 15, yet another russian, Anna Chakvetadze!
Anna Chakvetadze bio
Anna Chakvetadze is a hot tennis player who is one of the very few “not-ovas” from Russia, as her surname is derived from georgian ancestry. She was born in Russia’s capital, Moscow, in March 5th 1987.
Although she also reached a Wimbledon juniors final back in 2003, her best run at a Grand Slam professional tournament was at the 2007 US Open, where she was only defeated at the semi-finals by Svetlana Kuznetsova. Proving that she can play well in all different surfaces, she also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros, both in 2007.
Anna Chakvetadze has a fantastic record of 8-1 in WTA finals. She only lost one final to Caroline Wozniacki, in 2008, and her best win was a Tier I event at her native city, Moscow, where she won the Kremlin Cup against another home favourite, Nadia Petrova.
Anna Chakvetadze was ranked as high as number 5, but her ranking lately collapsed, and her career has been marked by health problems, which led to her fainting at three different matches in the beginning of 2011. Anyway, she is fine (pun intended).
