Eugenie Bouchard bio

Eugenie Bouchard, known at the circuit by her nickname Genie, was born in Westmount, Quebec, Canada, on February 25th 1994. She started to play tennis at the tender age of five.

She got her first juniors title in Costa Rica when she was only 14 years old. As she prefers fast surfaces, her best juniors Grand Slam performances came at the grass courts of Wimbledon. She won the doubles title in 2011, being defeated in singles by Irina Khromacheva. The following year, she was able to win the singles title, a feat that had never been achieved by any Canadien player, junior or pro, male or female. She paired Taylor Townsend to revalidate her doubles title.

In 2013, she made her Grand Slam main draw debut at Roland Garros where she was able to advance to the second round, where she was defeated by defending champion Maria Sharapova. The best win in her career came three weeks after, when she beat the former world number one Ana Ivanovic at the second round of Wimbledon.

While Genie already has six ITF singles titles (and counting), she is yet to get any WTA title, as she lost her only final in Osaka (Japan), to Australian Samantha Stosur, after being able to win the first set.

On a personal level, her favorite hobbies are reading, shopping and swimming.
